About WebP to JPG Converter

Saved an image from a website and found it will not open? It is almost certainly WebP. Load it here and get a JPG back that every editor, form and document tool accepts. Set the quality before downloading, compare the original and converted file sizes, and know that the image never leaves your browser.

What this tool does

  • Converts WebP images to JPG
  • Quality control, defaulting to 90%
  • Original and converted file sizes shown side by side
  • Preview of the result before you download
  • Works in every current browser — WebP decoding is universal
  • Runs entirely in your browser, with nothing uploaded

Runs in your browser. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you enter or open here is uploaded to our servers.

How to use WebP to JPG Converter

  1. Choose your WebP file

Select a .webp image. The tool accepts WebP specifically — other formats are rejected rather than silently mishandled.

  2. Set the quality

90% is the default and looks identical to the source in normal viewing. Lower it if you need a smaller file.

  3. Convert and compare

The converted preview appears with both file sizes, so you can see what the trade cost you.

  4. Download the JPG

The result saves as a JPG that opens anywhere.

WebP, JPG, and when to convert

Why you keep running into WebP

WebP is Google's image format, and it does its job well: at similar visual quality it produces files roughly 25–35% smaller than JPEG, supports transparency like PNG, and supports animation like GIF. That combination is why a large share of the web now serves it, and why the image you right-click and save is so often a .webp.

The friction is entirely downstream. Every current browser displays WebP, but plenty of desktop software, upload forms, document tools and print services still do not accept it — which is the problem this converter exists to solve.

WebP compared with JPG

The two formats differ in more than efficiency, and one of the differences will bite you if you are not expecting it.

WebP and JPG compared
WebP JPG
File size Roughly 25–35% smaller at similar quality Larger
Transparency Supported Not supported
Animation Supported Not supported
Browser support Universal in current browsers Universal, including everything old
Software support Patchy outside browsers Effectively total
Best for Serving images on the web Compatibility with everything else

Transparency does not survive

WebP supports an alpha channel; JPEG does not. Converting a WebP with transparent areas — a logo, an icon, a cut-out product shot — fills those areas in, and there is no way around that within JPEG.

If the transparency matters, convert to PNG rather than JPG. If you only need the image on a known solid background, a JPG is fine and will be smaller than the equivalent PNG.

Do not convert what you are about to publish

It is worth being clear about direction. Converting WebP to JPG is the right move when something downstream refuses WebP. It is the wrong move for images you are about to put on a web page — there you want the smaller format, and going the other way with the JPG to WebP converter reduces page weight instead of increasing it.

Also avoid round trips. Every conversion between lossy formats re-encodes the picture and loses a little more, so convert once from the best source you have rather than repeatedly.

When people use this tool

Opening an image you saved from a site

The most common reason people convert WebP at all.

Uploading to a form that rejects WebP

Many portals and applications accept JPG and PNG only.

Inserting into a document or slide

Older versions of Office and many PDF tools cannot place a WebP.

Editing in older software

Desktop editors that predate WebP will not open it.

Sending to a print service

Print workflows are conservative and generally want JPG or TIFF.

Sharing with someone on an old device

JPG removes any question of whether it will open.
